Eduard Strasburger Prize of the DBG

Der Strasburger-Preis zeichnet hervorragende und originelle Leistungen promovierter Wissenschaftlerinnen / Wissenschaftler in den Pflanzenwissenschaften aus. Er ist mit einem Preisgeld von 2.500 Euro dotiert und lädt den Preisträger / die Preisträgerin ein, die Ergebnisse auf der größten Tagung für Pflanzenwissenschaften im deutschsprachigen Raum zu präsentieren, unserer Botanik-Tagung. Das Preisgeld und die Reisekosten werden vom Springer Spektrum Verlag übernommen. Eine hochkarätig besetzte Jury wählt die beste Arbeit unter den eingehenden Bewerbungen aus. Vorschlagberechtigt sind promotionsberechtigte Mitglieder der DBG. Bewerbungsschluss ist am 26. April 2026.

The Strasburger Prize is awarded every other year for an outstanding and unconventional work in the field of plant sciences carried out by a young doctorate. It is donated by the Pubisher Springer Spektrum and is given by the German Society for Plant Sciences (DBG) since 1994 according to the statutes.

Springer Spektrum publishing house donated the prize on the occasion of the 100^th anniversary of the first publishing of the book "Lehrbuch der Botanik" by Eduard Strasburger, Fritz Noll, Heinrich Schenck und A. F. Wilhelm Schimper.

The Prize comprises

• a document comprising the name of the award winner, the title of the award winning work and is underwritten by the president of the DBG
• a summ of Euros 2,500.-
• a travel allowance for the award winner to join the "Botanik-Tagung" where he/she will be invited to present his/her work.

Proposing early career candidates

Proposals can be made by scientists who may grant doctorates and who are members of the German Society for Plant Sciences. The awarded work may not be older than two years. The doctorate of the candidate may not be older than four years (in some cases prolonged for child, family, and other care times, see statutes). No one can propose his/her own work.
