He therefore encouraged all participants to enjoy the possibilities offered by the Botanikertagung and the big network of the DBG. He thanked all speakers and poster creators, the conference chair, Professor Karin Krupinska and her team, who invited many Danish Colleagues, and all the people and institutions who contributed to the conference.

Awards for best posters at Botanikertagung 2017

From the 235 posters presented at Botanikertagung 2017 in Kiel an expert jury chose several as best papers. The awarded presenters received a document as well as 135 Euros each since the German Society for Plant Sciences (DBG) today was 135 years old.

The president of the DBG inaugurated the international Botanikertagung in Freising, Germany. He is looking forward to the reunification with the Society for Applied Botany, the establishment of a new Section within the DBG, thanked the congress presidents and emphasized the importance of scientific societies.

Leaders despite lacking acceptance

The president of the German Botanical Society (DBG), Professor Dr. Karl-Josef Dietz, welcomed all participants of the Botanikertagung. He focussed on the best citation rankings and the increasing solutions, which are plant scientists expected to solve, on the one hand and the lacking recognition from the public. He describes how the American sister, the American Society of Plant Biologists (ASPB), reacts to this issue and calls on everybody to make a change.
