Benefits of Membership

In the German Society for Plant Sciences (Deutsche Botanische Gesellschaft, DBG) you encounter early career researchers as well as established scientists working in all disciplines of plant sciences, ranging from molecular and genetic biologists, to vegetation sociologists and evolution as well as ecosystem scientists. Specialists in certain fields of knowledge share ideas and opinions within the Sections of the Society.

With more than 1,000 members (in April 2022), DBG is the largest non-profit plant science community in the German speaking area. DBG represents all plant science disciplines, advances plant sciences and promotes dialogue. Members support the objectives of the DBG, strengthen the voice of our Society and thus promote plant sciences. They give voice to plant sciences in scientific, public, and political discussions through their membership.

Newsletter and scientific journal

Every other month the German newsletter of the DBG informs members exclusively about plant science news, trends and topics in the plant science community, and news from the DBG and its sections. Members of the DBG obtain the journal Plant Biology free of charge.

Meetings and conferences

To encourage the exchange of knowledge and experiences among scientists the Society promotes scientific meetings regularly, like the biennially International Conference of our German Society for Plant Sciences, the Botanik-Tagung, which covers the whole range of plant science disciplines. Members profit from reduced registration fees at the Botanik-Tagung.

Promotion of early career scientists

The DBG fosters early career scientists ideally and financially. It awards several prices for excellent early career scientists. Moreover, the Society provides travel grants to enable young researchers to take part in the Botanik-Tagung and to undertake lab visits. The DBG sponsors meetings if they provide special offers for early career scientists. And DBG supports the organisation of conferences organised by early career scientists on hot topics.

Benefits for established scientists

Members can apply for support of conferences addressing special topics, announce job offers on the website, and inform about meetings and conferences via the Newsletter.

Review Boards

The board of the DBG recommends scientists for the review board, who ensure the quality of the German Research Foundation's (Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft, DFG) review processes.

Members and Memberships

Every person working in the plant sciences or related disciplines and every person interested in supporting the aims and objectives of the Society is invited to become a member.
