Awards, Prizes and Honors

Prizes for Young Scientists

The German Society for Plant Sciences (Deutsche Botanische Gesellschaft, DBG) awards several prizes to support and encourage early career scientists.

The Wilhem Pfeffer Prize is being awarded biennially from funds of the Wilhelm-Pfeffer-Foundation for an outstanding PhD Thesis. The Prize for the Best Publiaction will be awarded yearly from funds of the Wilhelm Pfeffer Foundation.

The "Förderpreis der Horst-Wiehe-Stiftung" (Horst Wiehe Prize) is being awarded every second year for an outstanding scientific work in the field of Botany.

Every year the DBG awards a prize for the best master thesis in plant sciences at every participating university.

On the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the first edition of the "Lehrbuch für Botanik" by E. Strasburger, F. Noll, H. Schenk and A.F.W. Schimper, the "Strasburger Prize" was created in 1994. Being awarded every second year for an outstanding and especially original botanical work of a scientist less than 35 years old, the Strasburger-Preis is endowed with 2.500 Euros.

Medal

In addition to the prizes for ealry career scientists the DBG awards meritious persons with the Simon Schwendener Medal.

Honorary Members

The Society appoints up to 25 honorary members.
