DBG is co-founder of the vbbm
Together with 12 other Societies the DBG foundet the Verbund biowissenschaftlicher und biomedizinischer Gesellschaften (vbbm) e.V. [1] in March 17th 2004.
The vbbm is an umbrella organization for German societies in the field of life sciences. The 23 member organizations of vbbm represent 25,000 active life scientists in 2006 and cover a broad range of biological research.
Vbbm aims to enhance science and research in the life sciences. Main activities are the promotion of a dialogue between different disciplines of life sciences, bringing forward the concerns of biological disciplines towards decision-makers. It is also giving advice to legislation, administration and public institutions concerning education and research policy. Furthermore, vbbm encourages a substantial dialogue between Science and Society covering the wide range of biological research, their applications, chances and consequences.
To attain a joint strong voice for all life sciences from school to forefront research, vbbm cooperates with Verband Deutscher Biologen (vdbiol [2]) and the Deutsches Nationalkomitee Biologie (DNK [3]) within International Union of Biological Societies and with the vbu [4].
At the 31st of May in 2007 the vbbm joined the VdBiol. The formation of the new umbrella organisation “VBIO [5] is the German Life Sciences Association.
