Members and Membership

Advantages for members

At the DBG you encounter like-minded scientists working in diverse botanical disciplines. Specialists of certain fields of knowledge share ideas and opinions within the five Sections of the Society.

To encourage the exchange of knowledge and experiences among botanists the Society promotes scientific meetings regularly, like the biennially Botanikertagung which covers the whole range of botanical disciplines as well as conferences addressing special topics [1]. Members profit from reduced registration fees at the Botanikertagung.

The DBG fosters young scientists ideally and financially. It awards several prices for young and excellent scientists to promote their careers [2]. Moreover, the Society provides travel allowances to enable young researchers to take part in congresses and meetings [3]. The DBG sponsors meetings if they provide special offers for prospective scientists.

Members of the DBG obtain the journal "Plant Biology" free of charge which is published by Wiley-Blackwell since 2008.

The board of the DBG recommends scientists for the review board, who ensure the quality of the German Research Foundation's (Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft, DFG) review processes. This activity and other perspectives within the Society are presented by DBG board members in an interview in 2007 (in German language [4]).

Members and Memberships

At present, the DBG represents around 900 members from more than 15 countries. Every person working in the botanical sciences or related disciplines and every person interested in supporting the aims and objectives of the Society is invited to become a member.

Membership fee

The annual membership fee is € 70,00 at present and is due by January of every year. Students pay a reduced annual fee of € 35,00 at present, if they submit a valid enrollment-certificate when joining, as well as submitting a new certificate to the Executive Committee [5] at the end of each year. Granting of fee-reductions on application in special cases is to the responsibility of the Executive Committee, according to the constitution of the society.
