Prizes presented by the German Botanical Society
The German Botanical Society awards several prizes to support and encourage young scientists.
Wilhelm-Pfeffer-Prize and Best-Paper-Prize
The Wilhem Pfeffer Prize [1] is being awarded biennially from funds of the Wilhelm-Pfeffer-Foundation for an outstanding PhD Thesis. The Prize for the Best Publiaction [2] will be awarded yearly from funds of the Wilhelm Pfeffer Foundation.
Horst Wiehe Prize
The "Föderpreis der Horst-Wiehe-Stiftung" (Horst Wiehe Prize [3]) is being awarded every second year for an outstanding scientific work in the field of Botany.
The statutes for both awards are published in Botanica Acta, Vol. 104, A 9-10 (1991). The invitation for applications for the awards is being published in the journal "Plant Biology" (formerly: Botanica Acta).
Strasburger Prize
On the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the first edition of the "Lehrbuch für Botanik" by E. Strasburger, F. Noll, H. Schenk and A.F.W. Schimper, the "Strasbuger Prize [4]" was created in 1994 by the Gustav Fischer Verlag, Stuttgart. Being awarded every second year for an outstanding and especially original botanical work of a scientist less than 35 years old, the Strasburger-Preis is endowed with € 2.500,-. The statutes are published in the journal "Botanica Acta", Vol. 106, A 5 (1993) and were revised in 2004. The invitation for applications is published in the journal "Plant Biology" (formerly: Botanica Acta).
Medal
In addition to the prizes for young scientists the DBG awards meritious persons with the Simon Schwendener Medal [5]
